Wind turbines: Full of Potential or Just Hot Air

For a very long time now there has been a need for an environmentally friendly energy source to serve as a reliable supply of power for our cities and our households. And while there are a few that can be used as such a source, all of them have as many drawbacks as benefits when compared to the old alternatives of fossil fuels and nuclear energy. And of course, this also includes wind turbines.

The idea to harness the power of the wind is not a new one. While now it is being used to provide our homes with electricity all around the world, a long time ago it was being used to literally go around the world and cross the seas. The wind has been used to do everything from pulling the very first sail boat ever constructed, to letting our kids fly some of the worst kites ever constructed. But, the question isn’t whether it can be used as a source of power, but rather if it can serve as a dependable one.

Wind turbines have proven themselves to be reliable converters of wind and kinetic force into raw energy, however the problem is that much like with solar power, exactly how much raw energy is regularly generated can fluctuate. This happens because the level of energy produced by all of these newer eco-friendly ways of generating power is heavily influenced by the weather conditions. This means that while in the best conditions they could potentially produce more than enough clean energy to power an entire city, sometimes they may even struggle to produce enough for a single house.

But, forgetting for a minute that the wind turbines are designed to provide power to the cities, are the smaller models a more promising prospect? Well, small wind turbines are compact enough that you could attach them to your home’s generator, they don’t require such absurdly strong winds to turn, and if nothing else, at least they could save you quite a bit of money in the long run even in bad weather conditions.

If you live in an area where there are frequently strong gusts of wind, then small wind turbines might just be an ideal thing to seriously consider installing. If you are concerned about its ability to reliably provide you with electricity, then understandably it might seem like an unsure prospect, as well as a pricey one. However, even if it produces only half of what it was predicted to, that is still free clean energy coming into your home which can if nothing else serve as a reserve supply. And even if it does seem like an expensive investment, in no time flat it will pay for itself many times over.
